Thanks for playing Bookidle. These terms lay out the rules for using our site. By visiting or playing any quiz here, you're agreeing to follow them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. What These Terms Cover
These terms apply whenever you access Bookidle. They work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data. If you're using the site for work or for an organization, you're confirming you have permission to agree to these terms on their behalf.
2. What Bookidle Offers
Bookidle runs two daily games: one where you guess a book from its cover, and another where you figure out the title using five clues that get easier each time. A new puzzle appears every day. Everything here is free and meant for fun.
3. No Accounts Needed
You don't need to sign up or create a profile to play. Any progress, like which clues you've opened or your current score, gets saved inside your browser, not on our servers. That means your game data stays on your device, and nobody else can see it.
4. What You Can't Do
Please don't do any of the following while using Bookidle:
- Use the site for anything illegal
- Try to break into or mess with our backend systems
- Post answers or spoilers publicly in a way that ruins the game for others
- Run automated scripts, scrapers, or bots to pull content from the site
- Copy or redistribute our quiz clues or game format without permission
5. Who Owns What
Our original content: The clue text, quiz rules, site design, and the Bookidle name are ours. You can't reuse them elsewhere without asking first.
Book covers: We pull book cover images from the Open Library API. Those covers belong to their original publishers, authors, and illustrators. We don't own them, and we show them only to make the game work. If you hold rights to a cover and have an issue with it appearing here, let us know and we'll sort it out.
Trademarks: Any book titles, author names, or brand names that show up on Bookidle belong to their respective owners. Seeing them here doesn't mean we're endorsed by or connected to those owners.
6. Our Promise (and Lack Thereof)
We run Bookidle as-is. That means we don't guarantee it'll work perfectly 100% of the time, or that it'll never have bugs or errors. The quizzes are for entertainment. We're not responsible if you find a clue misleading or if something doesn't work the way you expected.
7. Our Liability Is Limited
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Bookidle isn't responsible for any damages that come from using, or not being able to use, the site. That includes lost time, frustration, or anything else, whether we warned you about the possibility or not.
8. We May Change These Terms
From time to time, we might update this page. If the changes are significant, we'll post a notice on the homepage or update the date at the top. Playing after the changes means you're okay with the new version.
9. Blocking Access
If someone repeatedly breaks these rules or tries to harm the site, we can block their IP address or take other steps to keep them out. We don't have user accounts, so that's our main way of handling serious violations.
10. Legal Stuff
These terms are governed by the laws of Canada. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still stand.
11. Getting in Touch
